ADN 103 Nursing Process and Health Assessment. This course will expand on basic adult assessment skills utilizing the nursing process. This course includes interviewing skills, obtaining a health history, physical exam techniques for various body systems, diagnostic reasoning, and documentation of findings.

Prerequisite: Pre-articulation student, licensed RN, or permission of instructor

ADN 104 Altered States of Adult Health. This course will expand the students' knowledge in the sciences and explore how alterations in structure (anatomy) and function (physiology) disrupt the human body as a whole. The focus of this course will be on clinical application using a case study approach. An understanding of how the human body uses its adaptive powers to maintain homeostasis is integral to this course. It is expected that students will learn to appreciate these remarkable adaptive abilities and incorporate a new level of understanding into their practice in the health care field. It is understood that this is an evolving science continually being updated and clarified by research.

This course would be appropriate for anyone who may be employed in a health care field or interested in pursuing a health related career. It will provide a linkage between science and clinical application by the health care provider and as such lay a strong foundation for practice.

ADN 123 Nursing Assessment. This course will focus on basic adult health assessment skills using the nursing process. ADN 124 Pharmacology for Nurses. This course is an introduction to nursing as a practicing profession and the role of the nurse relating to the use of pharmaceutical agents. The focus of this course is based on using scientific principles and the nursing process to provide care to a person in a structured environment. The roles of the nurse as provider of care and teacher are emphasized, along with legal and ethical accountability.

ADN 125 Principles of Nursing Care. This course is an introduction to nursing as a profession. The nursing process is introduced as it relates to nursing practice in less complex older adults, and medical/surgical adult clients in a structured environment. Principles inherent to the roles of the nurse as a professional are introduced.

ADN 125L Principles of Nursing Care - Clinical Skills. The clinical component of this course introduces the principles and practice of clinical nursing skills using nursing process in the laboratory and clinical setting. Principles inherent to the role of nurse as provider of holistic care, communicator, teacher and member of the profession are practiced.

The nursing process is used to assist the individual/family to achieve goals in a variety of settings. Students relate scientific and psychosocial principles in a holistic approach to promote or maintain health in the adult client.

ADN 127 Nursing Care of the Childbearing Family. This course is a continued development of the nurse as a professional. The nursing process is used as it relates to the childbearing family with well-defined nursing diagnoses. A holistic approach is used to assist the student to deliver family-centered care to the childbearing family with both normal and abnormal conditions.

ADN 226 Nursing Care of the Mental Health Client. This course continues to develop the nurse as a professional by teaching the therapeutic use of self in nursing practice. The nursing process is used to enhance wellness for the adult client in community and clinical settings. Principles of human behavior and

 

holistic health are considered, with particular focus on stress, crisis, and the factors which influence coping. Legal/ethical issues unique to mental health situations are emphasized.

ADN 226L Nursing Care of the Mental Health Client - Clinical Skills. The nursing process is used to help adult clients to achieve personal goals in mental health settings. A variety of community settings and clinical sites are used by student nurses to provide primary, secondary and tertiary intervention for actual and potential mental health problems. ADN 228 Nursing Leadership. This course is designed to continue the development of the role of the nurse as a professional. ADN 228L Nursing Leadership - Clinical Skills. The nursing process is used as it relates to nursing practice in the more complex care of adult clients at varying stages of wellness in a variety of settings. experiences of this course focus on the correlation of management principles, legal and ethical accountability, and transition phase from student to graduate role.

ADN 230 Nursing Transition. This course is an introduction to nursing as a profession focusing on the transition from the LPN to the RN role. Emphasis is on scientific principles, holistic nursing care of the person, and the use of the nursing process to provide care. The clinical component of this course emphasizes the role of the transition student as direct care provider, communicator, teacher, and as a member of the nursing profession. Trends in health care, health promotion, and legal-ethical accountability are integrated throughout this course.

ADN 230L Nursing Transition - Clinical Skills. The clinical component of ADN 230 Nursing Transition, focuses on continued development of nursing as a profession. The nursing process is used to assist adults with less complex medical and surgical conditions to achieve goals/outcomes. The role of the student as a practitioner in providing direct care is a major focus. Concepts inherent to the role of the nurse as communicator, teacher, and member of the profession are continued. Students relate scientific principles and concepts to the health care of the adult client. Issues, trends, legal accountability, and promotion of quality care are integrated.

Students relate scientific and psychosocial principles to develop a plan to promote or maintain health in the adult client.

The clinical component of this course is incorporated into ADN 235L.

ADN 236 Nursing Care of the Older Adult. This course continues to develop the nurse as a professional by building on the concepts relative to the older adult taught in previous nursing courses and PSY 220. The speciality of Gerontological Nursing is presented and principles of holistic health are considered with particular focus on the diversity of health care needs of older adults in the community and clinical setting. The nursing process is used to address major clinical problems seen in the complex older adult.
