CIVIL ARCHITECTURAL TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM Program Code: AASCA

ASSOCIATE IN APPLIED ARTS AND SCIENCE DEGREE

Honors Degree option available

Engineering Technology Dept. 810-989-5754

The exploding population increases the need for many kinds of shelters - new homes, churches, schools, recreation centers, stores, offices, and a complex of structures in areas of urban renewal. Existing buildings undergo constant upkeep, repair, and modernization. The result is a vast, diverse building-construction industry that requires a variety of competent technical personnel. This course provides the technical knowledge and skills necessary for entry-level employment in jobs such as architectural draftsmen, junior designers, assistants to construction supervisors, surveyors, and estimators. The technician in this field must have sound training in costs and estimates, properties of materials, and construction processes.

Since the civil architect may coordinate the work of many craftsmen involved in the completion of a project - steel workers, steam-fitters, plumbers, carpenters, bricklayers, and electricians - the architect must also be educated in the basic principles of human relations and management.
