    • Skippers place fifth at invitational; host Kromer Classic Friday at the Elks  

       
      SC4 golfers opened their season Friday, Sept. 9, with a fifth-place finish at the Kirtland Invitational.

      The Skippers finished with a 310 score at The Nightmare GC in West Branch, two strokes behind Muskegon CC. Mott won the event with a 289.

      Sophomore Landin Kircus paced SC4 with a 76, which was good enough for ninth place. Freshman Hunter Brandt, an Almont graduate, tied for 25th place with a 79, while Port Huron Northern grad Nick Vranish carded an 81 and tied for 30th place.

      Rounding out the team scoring was freshman Josh Susterich of Almont with an 83. Armada grad Matt Hammer posted an 84.

      Coach Dale Vos’ team returns to action 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, with the fourth annual Robert “Sam” Kromer Classic. Competing in the 18-hole event will be Ancilla CC, Oakland CC and Schoolcraft College. Oakland is the three-time defending champion.
