    • Skippers slip past Henry Ford 86-83 in overtime

The SC4 men’s basketball team has its final regular-season home game scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 20 against Mott CC.

But coach Dale Vos’ squad is shooting for another home game in the first round of the NJCAA District H tournament. The Skippers have to finish in the top four of the MCCAA Eastern Conference standings to secure a home contest the first week of March.

Following an 86-83 overtime victory Wednesday, Feb. 17 against Henry Ford College on the road, the Skippers improved to 8-5 in the league and 16-9 overall. They are tied for fourth place with Mott and Macomb, but just a half-game behind Wayne County and Delta.

The tipoff for the showdown with Mott is 3 p.m. MSU’s famous Zeke the Wonderdog will be performing at halftime of both the women’s (1 p.m. start) and men’s games.

Sophomore guard Chris Parker was fouled on a 3-pointer with 40 seconds remaining in regulation against Henry Ford. He made the three free throws to tie the game at 72 and force a five-minute overtime period.

Parker finished with 22 points. Sophomore center Xavian Edwards added 17 points and 12 rebounds, sophomore guard TaRayle Cates chipped in with 14 points and sophomore Jason Watts had 14 points and 19 rebounds.

Yale graduate Josh McClelland, a freshman guard, sparked the Skippers off the bench with his long-range shooting. He hit three 3-pointers in five attempts and totaled 13 points.
