SC4 honor society chapter recognized for work

The Lambda Mu Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society at St. Clair County Community College was recognized as a top chapter during the 89th annual Phi Theta Kappa International Convention.

SC4 students and alumni attended the convention, which was April 12, 13 and 14 in Nashville, Tenn.

Lambda Mu won a Service Hallmark Award for its service projects, which included the ski-dueling fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society and Earth-friendly projects such as highway cleanups.

Lambda Mu was ranked among the top 100 chapters in the country based on judging in three categories: scholarship, leadership and service.

Tom Obee, an SC4 professor, is the Lambda Mu advisor and coordinator of the Phi Theta Kappa Michigan Region. The Michigan region represents 31 schools and won three awards during the conference.

SC4 students Nicole Ledsworth of Kimball Township and Cory Christian of Berlin Township presented an educational forum, “How to run for international or regional office,” during the conference.

Other SC4 students who attended included Jamie Carpenter of Kimball Township, Steve Durette of Fort Gratiot, Yvonne Gabriel of Kenockee Township, Angela Jackson of Wales Township and Ted Parkhurst of China Township. Obee and alumnus Daniel Martiny of Port Huron also attended.

Lambda Mu and SC4 will host the annual Michigan Region conference May 18, 19 and 20.
