SC4 photography exhibit to honor Port Huron sesquicentennial

St. Clair County Community College will present “A Portrait of our Community,” an exhibit of late photographer Russell Sawyer’s work from Oct. 8 through Nov. 20.

The show will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays in the Fine Arts Galleries on the college’s Port Huron campus.

Sawyer’s black and white photographs depict the Port Huron area from the 1940s through the 1970s. Sawyer was born in Port Huron in 1907 and died in 1989.

The exhibition is loaned to the college from the Port Huron Museum and is displayed in conjunction with the city’s sesquicentennial celebration.

David Korff, chair of the college’s Visual and Performing Arts Department, said the show is a wonderful glimpse into Port Huron’s past.

“As time marches on, things are changing in our community. The presentation does talk about a tremendous shift in the way we live in the Blue Water Area.”
