SC4's The Spiral Studio to feature college professor

St. Clair County Community College’s The Spiral Studio in December will feature SC4 communication design Professor John Henry, who will work on silk screening.

The Spiral Studio is 300 square feet of workspace at Studio 1219 in Port Huron for SC4 students, faculty and alumni. Each month, an SC4 art instructor or alumni artist is featured working in the studio.

SC4 students and alumni are welcome to use the studio to create their own work, converse with the guest artist, and network with fellow students and artists at Studio 1219. The public is welcome to visit and discuss art with The Spiral Studio artists.

Henry, 62, of Fort Gratiot has taught at SC4 for 27 years and is the college’s discipline coordinator for communication design.

Henry creates about 200 pieces of art each year in numerous mediums, including sculptures, paintings and graphic design pieces. He has received more than 30 awards for his work during his career.

Henry earned a master of arts from Norwich University in Vermont, a master of arts in teaching from Antioch College in Ohio and a bachelor of art education from the University of Dayton in Ohio.

The Spiral Studio and Studio 1219 hours are noon to 5 p.m. Sunday and Wednesday and noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

For details, call the college’s Visual and Performing Arts Department at (810) 989-5709 or visit www.sc4.edu/spiral.
