SC4 to celebrate National Community College Month in April
April is National Community College Month, and community colleges across the
nation are planning events to celebrate. In conjunction with the Michigan Community
College Association’s celebrations, St. Clair County Community College
in Port Huron will be offering numerous activities, starting with Free College
Day on April 5.
Events planned for April include:
- Free College Day — SC4
will offer its annual Free College Day on Saturday, April 5. The event will
feature more than 150 free sessions on the college’s Port Huron campus.
Deadline is Tuesday, April 1, for advance registration online at www.sc4.edu/freecollege.
Walk-in registration will be available April 5.
- SC4 Career Fair — The
college will offer its annual Career Fair from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday,
April 16, in Room 150 of the Citizens First Michigan Technical Education
Center on the Port Huron campus. The event offers job seekers a chance to
meet employers and learn about job opportunities.
- Student Recognition Ceremony — Students
will be honored for academic, leadership and service excellence at a ceremony
from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, in the SC4 Fine Arts Theatre.
- Free noon concerts — SC4
students will present “Tapestry” at noon Thursday, April 17,
and pianist Olga Tcherniak and violinist Leonid Peisahov will perform at
noon Thursday, April 24. Both free shows are in the SC4 Fine Arts Theatre.
- GradFest — As part
of a celebration leading up to Commencement in May, SC4 students will receive
their caps and gowns and graduation information Thursday, April 17.
- Staff Recognition Dinner — SC4
employees will be honored for service and special recognition Friday, April
18.
- Celebrate Administrative
Professionals — A luncheon and program for administrative professionals
will be Wednesday, April 23, on campus. Register by April 10. Call (810)

- SC4 Symphonic Band — The
band will perform its “Moments in Time” concert at 7 p.m. Thursday,
April 24, at McMorran Place Auditorium in Port Huron. For ticket information,
call (810) 985-6166.
- SC4 and University Center
Open House — SC4 and its University Center programs will be highlighted
for the public at an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 24, in the
SC4 Citizens First Michigan Technical Education Center. College leaders will
explain SC4’s programs, as well as bachelor’s and master’s
degree programs available through SC4’s eight University Center partners.
- High school counselor
brunch — High school counselors will visit the SC4 campus for briefings
on college programs April 25.
- Patterns 50th Anniversary
Art Show — The show, “Visual Artists Then and Now,” will
exhibit work from artists who contributed to Patterns during its first 49
years. Patterns is a literary and arts publication featuring work from St.
Clair County Community College students.
- Patterns Reception — A
reception to celebrate the release of the 50th edition of Patterns will be
from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 27, in the SC4 Fine Arts Theatre and College
Center Atrium. The event will feature readings from three guest authors,
including Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Franz Wright and authors Michael Perry
and Mike Magnuson. Copies of Patterns will be available.
- Sophomore Portfolio Show — The
best work of SC4 sophomores will be displayed in the Fine Arts Galleries
beginning Wednesday, April 30, and running through Thursday, May 8.
- The Spiral Studio — The
April guest artist at The Spiral Studio is SC4 alumma Debra Dunkel, who will
work on paper collages. The studio is at Studio 1219 in downtown Port Huron.
- Athletics — The
college has numerous athletic events in April, as SC4’s baseball and
softball teams play home games at Sanborn Park in Port Huron.
