SC4 Foundation announces Evelyn Sharrow Scholarship Fund

The SC4 Foundation has established the Evelyn Sharrow Scholarship Fund and will award $1,000 annually to a St. Clair County Community College freshman.

The scholarship is made possible by a $15,000 donation in June to the SC4 Foundation by Charles L. Sharrow Jr. of Port Huron in memory of his wife, Evelyn (Yarger) Sharrow. Charles and Evelyn met at what was then Port Huron Junior College and graduated in 1935.

Evelyn was a believer in education and helping young people to become successful. She volunteered for more than 50 years for the Girl Scouts, Camp Fire USA and the Port Huron Area School District. She passed away Sept. 9, 2006.

The scholarship will be awarded annually to an SC4 freshman, with preference given to a Port Huron High School graduate. Other criteria include being enrolled full-time and having a minimum 3.0 grade point average. If no applications are received from Port Huron High School students in a given year, students from Port Huron Northern High School would be given consideration.

The SC4 Foundation was chartered in 1963 by a group of visionary business and community leaders as a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting St. Clair County Community College in developing its educational programs and expanding its facilities.

For information about establishing a scholarship for SC4 students, contact Donna Blay, director of college advancement and alumni relations, at (810) 989-5761 or dblay@sc4.edu.
