Deadline set Tuesday to file for two-year SC4 trustee seat Because of a resignation, a two-year seat on the St. Clair County Community College Board of Trustees will be up for election in November. Deadline to file for the seat is 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12. The election is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 4. The college’s district roughly follows the same geographic boundaries as the St. Clair County Regional Educational Service Agency. The person elected will fill the last two years (Jan. 1, 2009 through Dec. 31, 2010) on the unexpired term of Trustee Norman D. Beauchamp of Fort Gratiot, who resigned, effective July 31. The SC4 Board of Trustees at its Thursday, Aug. 7, meeting appointed David E. Oppliger of Fort Gratiot to fill the vacancy through Dec. 31, 2008. Petitions are available at the St. Clair County Clerk’s Office, 201 McMorran Blvd., Port Huron, for people living within the college’s district who want to run for the seat. Interested candidates may file a petition with the required number of signatures by the Aug. 12 deadline or pay a $100 fee by the deadline. In addition, SC4 has two, six-year seats up for election on November on its Board of Trustees. The two, six-year terms would be from Jan. 1, 2009, through Dec. 31, 2014. The deadline for filing for those seats also is 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12. Note: When filing to run for election, a candidate must choose to run either for the two-year seat or one of the six-year seats. A candidate cannot be considered for both. The SC4 Board of Trustees consists of seven elected residents. For details, call the county clerk’s office at (810) 985-2222. |
