SC4 to offer overview of pharmacy tech programs

The public is invited to learn about St. Clair County Community College’s new pharmacy technician programs at two free information sessions in August.

The SC4 Workforce Training Institute will offer the 12-weeek programs in Port Huron and Marlette this fall.

The Port Huron information session is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, in SC4’s Citizens First Michigan Technical Education Center. The 12-week program will meet there from 6:30 to 9:45 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, Sept. 22 to Dec. 17. Pre-assessment costs $50 and will be Wednesday, Sept. 3.

The Marlette information session is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, in the Michigan Works building, 3270 Wilson St., Marlette. The 12-week program will meet there from 6:30 to 9:45 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, Sept. 23 through Dec. 18. Pre-assessment costs $50 and will be Wednesday, Sept. 3.

The 75-hour program is geared toward a variety of students, including those interested in becoming pharmacy technicians, pre-pharmacy students or those with a health-care background looking to strengthen their current skills.

Students in the program will be introduced to various pharmacy practice settings and receive instruction in drugs, basic physiology, drug interactions and daily pharmacy operations.

Cost for the new pharmacy technician training program is $1,295 and includes all books and materials.
