SC4 announces new architecture associate degree, certificates

St. Clair County Community College in Port Huron will offer five new architectural technology programs beginning this fall.

The redesigned programs include a new associate in applied arts and science degree in architectural design. Also, four new, one-year certificate programs are available.
Students interested in a career in architecture can take classes that will lead them to in-demand jobs ranging from wiring to alternative energy.

The programs are:

  • Associate in applied arts and science degree in architectural design — Two-year program teaches architecture design and building construction. It incorporates the knowledge of all four certificates. The degree trains students for entry-level jobs in areas such as architecture design, interior design and construction management.
  • Architectural design certificate — Teaches design and building construction technologies, including cost estimating and 3-D scale models.
  • Architectural civil/sitework certificate — Teaches site design, drafting and associated construction.
  • Mechanical/electrical/plumbing certificate — Teaches building system design and construction technologies within a building.
  • Architectural structural certificate — Trains students in building structural systems for design and construction of roofs, floors and foundations.

The programs prepare students for popular entry-level jobs, such as architectural planners, field inspectors, construction estimators, construction management and building maintenance technicians.

Registration is open for fall semester classes that begin Aug. 24. For program details, call the SC4 Engineering Technology Department at (810) 989-5754 or check out certificate and associate degree programs at www.sc4.edu/degrees.
