SC4 to open annual Twilight Concert Series

The St. Clair County Community College Symphonic Band and Jazz Band will open their seven-performance free Twilight Consert Series with a special guest performance at 7 p.m. Friday, June 26, in downtown Port Huron. The show will be in McMorran Place Auditorium, 701 McMorran Blvd.

The first concert features the Big Band & Windorchestra of the Angelaschule from Osnabruck, Germany. (Note: A German big band is a jazz band. A windorchestra is a symphony band. The translation for Angelaschule is Angela School.)

The Big Band and Windorchestra of the Angelaschule together comprise about 55 members, mostly of high school and college age, directed by Ekkehard Sauer.

Other concerts in the 31st annual series are:

  • Saturday, June 27 (time to be announced) — Part of fireworks show at Desmond Landing along Port Huron’s waterfront south of the Black River, featuring the SC4 Jazz Band.
  • 7 p.m. Saturday, July 11 — SC4 Fine Arts Theatre, Port Huron, featuring the SC4 Symphonic Band.
  • 7 p.m. Thursday, July 16 — Algonac Riverfront Park, featuring the SC4 Symphonic Band and SC4 Jazz Band.
  • 7 p.m. Saturday, July 18 — SC4 Fine Arts Theatre, Port Huron, featuring the SC4 Symphonic Band and SC4 Jazz Band.
  • 7 p.m. Saturday, July 25 — SC4 Fine Arts Theatre, Port Huron, featuring the SC4 Symphonic Band.
  • 7 p.m. Friday, July 31 — Lexington Harbor Park, featuring the SC4 Symphonic Band and SC4 Jazz Band.

The Twilight Consert Series features light and popular music. The SC4 bands are conducted by Carl Gippert. St. Clair County Community College and the college’s Friends of the Arts group sponsor the shows, which are free to the public.

The Big Band & Windorchestra of the Angelaschule performance is made possible through funding from the Blue Water Arts Council and SC4 Friends of the Arts.
