SC4 honor society to present global topic seminars

The Lambda Mu chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society at St. Clair County Community College this fall will present an honors seminar series that offers viewpoints on several global topics.

This year’s theme is “The Paradox of Affluence: Choices, Challenges and Consequences.”

Lambda Mu is working with the international honor society to provide the seminars, which are conducted by experts and then shown on college campuses nationwide.

All seminars will be shown in Room 201 of the Clara E. Mackenzie Building on the college’s Port Huron campus. Refreshments will be served.

This year’s topics are:
  • 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22 — Ray Suarez, author and senior correspondent for The NewsHour, will discuss the topic “If You’re So Rich, How Come You’re Not Happier?: America’s Troubled Relationship with Class, Material Success, and the Pursuit of Happiness.”
  • 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29 — Jessica Jackley, co-founder of micro-lending Web site Kiva, will discuss the topic “Loans that Change Lives: The Story of Kiva.org.”
  • 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5 — Ralph Nader, consumer advocate for issues related to product safety, the environment, clean water and health, will discuss the topic “Subordinating Corporate Commercialism to the Sovereignty of the People.”

For details, contact Lambda Mu advisor Angela Heiden at (810) 984-3881, Ext. 6492, or aheiden@sc4.edu.
