SC4 Foundation awards $62,000 in scholarships in 2008-09

The SC4 Foundation in fiscal year 2008-09 awarded 45 scholarships totaling $61,978 to St. Clair County Community College students.

The scholarship reports were among those given during the foundation’s Annual Dinner on Tuesday, Oct. 13. Speaking during the dinner were two scholarship recipients, Hillary Meyer of Burtchville Township and Michael Connelly of Emmett.

The evening also featured a memorial tribute to John W. Shier, who served on the foundation board for 31 years.

At a foundation board of directors meeting after the dinner, the board elected two new board members: Rasha Demashkieh of Fort Gratiot and Jeff Wine of Port Huron.

The board also elected new officers: President Dr. Ralph M. Gillhooley of Port Huron, Vice President Bethany A. Belanger of Port Huron, Treasurer Karl S. Tomion of Port Huron and Secretary Kathleen M. Smith of Fort Gratiot.

The SC4 Foundation has $3,112,624 in total assets. It was chartered in 1963 by a group of visionary business and community leaders as a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting St. Clair County Community College in developing its educational programs and expanding its facilities.
