SC4 to present domestic violence awareness program

St. Clair County Community College will present a program Wednesday, Oct. 28, about domestic violence awareness and survival.

The program will be from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre on the college’s Port Huron campus.

Participants will learn how to recognize the signs of domestic violence and how to support victims in the healing process.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Presentations and presenters will include:
  • The Police Response to Domestic Violence — Port Huron Police Lt. Scott Pike, SC4 adjunct instructor.
  • Prosecuting Offenders and Victims’ Rights — St. Clair County Senior Assistant Prosecutor Mona Armstrong.
  • Domestic Violence Impact to Victim and Family; Services Provided by Safe Horizons — Dayna Guerrero, court advocate for Safe Horizons.
  • Dealing with Male Domestic Violence Denial — Patrick Cogley, president and chief executive officer of Catholic Social Services, domestic violence counselor and SC4 adjunct instructor.
  • Services Provided by Turning Point of Macomb — Diane Baur, director of support services/domestic and sexual assault counselor at Turning Point of Macomb.
  • Thoughts from a Survivor — Loraine Johnston.

The program is sponsored by Catholic Social Services, Port Huron Police Department, Safe Horizons, SC4 Social Science Department, St. Clair County Prosecutor’s Office and Turning Point of Macomb.
