SC4 to host sexual assault awareness mock trial

St. Clair County Community College will host a sexual assault awareness mock trial from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, in the Fine Arts Theatre on the college’s Port Huron campus.

The mock trial’s purpose is to raise awareness about date rape and date rape myths. It is being presented in observance of National Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month Day of Action and National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.

Mock trial participants include:
  • Judge – St. Clair County District Judge Cynthia Platzer.
  • Prosecutor – St. Clair County Senior Assistant Prosecutor Mona Armstrong.
  • Defense attorney – Gerry Mason, Gerry Mason and Associates, Attorneys & Counselors at Law PLLC.
  • Plaintiff – Chrystal Hartshorne, Safe Horizons volunteer.
  • Defendant – Nick Williams, Safe Horizons volunteer.
  • Jury – Representatives from various SC4 student clubs.

The program will conclude with Words from a Survivor by Sara Ylen.

The program is sponsored by Gerry Mason and Associates, Attorneys & Counselors at Law PLLC; Safe Horizons; SC4 Social Science Department; St. Clair County Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Council; St. Clair County Prosecutor’s Office; and St. Clair County Sherriff Department.

The event is being coordinated by SC4 student Kristen Richardson.
