SC4 to offer green residential building class

St. Clair County Community College’s Workforce Training Institute is offering a green residential building program on the Port Huron campus.

The program will run from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday from Feb. 7 to June 29.

The class will prepare students for entry-level employment in the residential construction industry, especially with firms interested in upgrading their sustainable business practices.

The program will focus on residential building and remodeling using the United States Green Building Council’s LEED residential green building standards.

The program consists of the following modules:

  • Basic core construction
  • Carpentry fundamentals
  • Carpentry framing and finishing
  • Green/sustainable construction
  • CPR/first aid
  • Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration policies

Students who complete the program will receive credentials and a certificate through the National Center for Construction Education and Research’s National Registry. The training is recognized throughout the United States.

Students must complete pre-assessment testing at least one week prior to class start date. For details or to register, call (810) 989-5788 or visit www.sc4.edu/preparetowork.
