SC4 honor society to offer symposium on the Internet’s impact

The Lambda Mu chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society at St. Clair County Community College will present its 16th annual Honors Symposium on Saturday, March 26.

The event, "The Internet: Power, Peril and Promise," will be from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Room 150 of the Citizens First Michigan Technical Education Center on the Port Huron campus. The event will feature an in-depth look at how the Internet and technology have impacted our lives.

Scheduled to speak are SC4 faculty and staff members:

  • Rob Richardson — "Too Much of a Good Thing: Revealing Some of the Risks Associated with Everyday Technology"
  • Becky Lubbers — "The Impact of the Internet on Social Media and the Political Arena"
  • Dan McCarty — "Has the Internet Made College Obsolete?"
  • Shawn Starkey — "Who Are the People in Your Neighborhood?"
  • David Buck — "Information: The Latest Superpower"
  • Tom Obee — "WWWeb of Lies: The Internet as a Source of Mis- and Disinformation, Intentional and Otherwise"

There is no charge to attend this event. A complimentary continental breakfast is provided. Lunch is available for $10. The symposium grants 0.6 continuing education units at a cost of $15.

Registration only is required for attendees who want lunch and/or continuing education units. Seating is limited; participants registered for lunch and/or continuing education units will have first priority for seating. Registration deadline is Wednesday, March 23.
