SC4 launches $1 million fundraising campaign

St. Clair County Community College and the SC4 Foundation today (Tuesday, Nov. 1) launched a $1 million public fundraising campaign for student scholarships and five capital projects on the college's Port Huron campus.

To date, $301,468, or 30%, already has been raised. That includes $201,468 in donations and pledges to the SC4 Foundation from SC4 faculty and staff; members of the SC4 Board of Trustees, SC4 Foundation Board of Directors and SC4 Alumni Association Board of Directors; and other friends of the college. In addition, the SC4 Foundation has designated $100,000 in previously raised money and investment income toward the capital projects.

"All Aboard: Campaign for Talent, Technology and Tomorrow" aims to raise the remaining money in the public phase of the campaign over the next two years.

The campaign includes these projects:

  • McMorran Greenway and Street Closure
  • Natural Science Museum Expansion
  • Historical Restoration of Room 312, Main Building
  • Campus Innovation Center
  • Campus Signage
  • Student scholarships
"The SC4 Foundation has a long and outstanding tradition of supporting St. Clair County Community College," said Wendy L. Krabach, SC4 Foundation president. "As an alumna of SC4, I am proud to be part of this campaign."

The SC4 Foundation was chartered in 1963 by a group of visionary business and community leaders as a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting St. Clair County Community College in developing its educational programs and expanding its facilities.

"Because of the economy, more than ever SC4 is a critical resource to educate, train and retrain the people of our community for the careers and jobs of tomorrow," SC4 President Dr. Kevin A. Pollock said. "Vast numbers of alumni and other members of our community have been positively affected by SC4. This campaign is an opportunity for them to give back so we can continue to provide our students with the best resources and therefore the best future."

CAPITAL PROJECT FACT SHEET

"All Aboard: Campaign for Talent, Technology and Tomorrow"

St. Clair County Community College and the SC4 Foundation today (Tuesday, Nov. 1) launched a $1 million public fundraising campaign. The campaign will raise money for student scholarships and these five capital projects on SC4’s Port Huron campus:

McMorran Greenway and Street Closure
Estimated cost: $400,000
Description: Contingent on the city of Port Huron vacating McMorran Boulevard from Erie Street to River Street, this project would improve and provide safer pedestrian flow on campus, offer additional green opportunities and give the campus a more defined entrance or "front door." The project would include street removal, curb removal, landscaping, sidewalk, cul-de-sac and street lighting to match SC4.

Natural Science Museum Expansion
Estimated cost: $150,000
Description: This project would refurbish an area on the first floor in the Clara E. Mackenzie Building to allow for more effective display of exhibits and display of additional pieces of the science collection now in storage. It would include a platform for large piece display, track lighting for visual impact, new display cases, signage, and tables and chairs for group study.

Historical Restoration of Room 312, Main Building
Estimated cost: $150,000
Description: This project would support the historic sensitivity to the Main Building’s original design. It would reveal the room’s high ceiling and associated architectural details, as well as add historical-period-style lighting, small auditorium-style furniture and state-of-the art technology for teaching and learning.

Campus Innovation Center
Estimated cost: $50,000
Description: This project would renovate the Memorial Room of the Clara E. Mackenzie Building to provide a designated area to explore and plan implementation of innovative ideas to move the college’s mission forward. It would include technology tools for collaboration, flexible seating and tables for small or large group opportunities, and an area for visiting groups to use for discussions.

Campus Signage
Estimated cost: $150,000
Description: This project would continue and expand a project initiated by a grant. It would include adding, improving and replacing worn building signs and way-finding signs, as well as lighting for signs. The project also would provide educational signs, incorporating QR codes scanable by smart phones, for self-directed tours about campus green features.
