SC4 honor society chapter recognized regionally

The Lambda Mu chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society at St. Clair County Community College and several chapter members were recognized during the society’s Michigan Region Convention.

SC4 students, alumni and chapter advisors attended the 23rd annual convention, which was May 18, 19 and 20 at Mid Michigan Community College in Harrison.

The chapter was recognized for the 22nd straight year as a Five Star Chapter, the highest rank a chapter can achieve.

The chapter also:

  • Tied for eighth place in the Honors in Action category for a project about identity theft.
  • Tied for 10th place for College Project for assisting with campus tours for eighth-graders.

Individual chapter members honored were:

  • Joel Smith of Port Huron, who won the $250 Dr. Richard Trombley Memorial Scholarship and was first runner-up in the Instrumental category in the Visual and Performing Arts competition.
  • Twana Pinskey of Kimball Township, who won first place for Photography and first place for Drama/Comedy.
  • Mark Spencer of Port Huron, who was first-runner up for Photography.

Other Lambda Mu representatives who attended the regional convention included students Scott Dulyea of Port Huron, Janice Kenny of Fort Gratiot, Greg Lane of Greenwood Township, Rebecca Roehrer of Capac, Hillary Smith of Port Huron and Tara Turpin of Port Huron; chapter alumni members Dan Martiny of Fort Gratiot and Kristen Matthews of Casco Township; advisor and SC4 instructor Angela Heiden of Emmett Township; and co-advisor and Professor Emeritus Thomas Obee of Columbus Township.
