SC4 to offer Emergency Medical Technician program

St. Clair County Community College will offer an Emergency Medical Technician program on the college's Port Huron campus.

The program will run from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday from June 25 to Aug. 23.

The EMT program is a combination of classroom instruction and clinical hours both on the ambulance and in the emergency room. The class will give students the skills necessary to administer medical care and assessments in the field. Students will learn care for medical emergencies, airway assessment and management skills, spinal immobilization, use of automated external defibrillator and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Students must be age 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED. A $10 fee will be collected the first week of class for a background check (no felony convictions). Students also must have a physical, the MMR and Varicella Zoster vaccinations, a flu shot, a negative five-panel drug screening, a negative TB test, a current tetanus shot and the Hepatitis B vaccination series started by the beginning of class.
