SC4 Foundation awards nearly $92,000 in scholarships

The SC4 Foundation has awarded $91,893 from 26 of its scholarship funds to 80 students for the 2012-13 academic year at St. Clair County Community College.

The SC4 Foundation was chartered in 1963 by a group of visionary business and community leaders as a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting the college in developing its educational programs and expanding its facilities.

Among the scholarship recipients are:

Helen Alexander Scholarship – Awarded to a freshman student who is a graduate of Port Huron High School and is enrolled full time.

  • LeeAnn Lum of Kimball Township, $300.

Mary M. Barss Nursing Endowment Fund — Awarded to a nursing student with a grade point average of 3.0 or above.

  • Andrea Covrea of Port Huron, $800.

Theodora I. Beard Memorial Scholarship – Awarded to a sophomore student enrolled full time with a minimum 3.0 grade point average.

  • Lisa Light-Abrego of Peck, $700.
  • Tami Malcolm of Lexington, $700.
  • Joyce Smith of Sandusky, $700.
  • Jamie Verbeke of China Township, $700.

Norman D. Beauchamp Scholarship — Awarded to a freshman or sophomore student enrolled full time and majoring in chemistry.

  • Cayla Essenburg of Riley Township, $1,000.

Wilfred Beauvais Memorial Scholarship – Awarded to a freshman student with a high school grade point average of 2.0 or higher.

  • Courtney Courtis of Fort Gratiot, $100

Howard D. and Annabelle Crull Scholarship – Awarded to a student enrolled in a vocational-technical program taking a minimum of 6 credit hours with a minimum 2.0 grade point average.

  • Josiah Pankiewicz of Columbus Township, $200.

Jerry Ebner Memorial Scholarship – Awarded to a graduate of Croswell-Lexington High School with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.

  • Tami Malcolm of Lexington, $500.
  • Melissa Meyer of Kimball Township, $500.

Raymond and Mary Haley Memorial Scholarship – Awarded to a student who is enrolled at least half time (6 credit hours).

Kathleen and Irvin Hayward Academic Scholarship – Awarded to an incoming freshman with a minimum 3.4 high school grade point average.

  • Brittany Hill of Burtchville Township, $500.

Kahmann Memorial Scholarship – Awarded to full-time students majoring in science or business with a minimum 2.0 grade point average.

  • Emily Berkobien of Kenockee Township, $1,000.
  • Julie Dionne of St. Clair, $1,000.
  • Danielle Finn of Marysville, $1,000.
  • Tammy Fontenot-Frantz of Port Huron, $1,000.
  • Demiree Fultz of Fort Gratiot, $1,000.

Hon. Edward T. Kane Memorial Scholarship — Awarded to a student majoring in criminal justice who has a minimum 3.25 grade point average and is enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours. Preference for students living in Algonac or Clay Township.

  • Casey Tait of Port Huron, $500.

Ellen Kean Scholarship — Awarded to SC4 sophomores who have completed their freshman year of college with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.

  • Kimberly Barraco of Kimball Township, $1,500.

  • Kimberly Brier of Fort Gratiot, $1,500.
  • Cynthia DiDato of Port Huron, $1,500.
  • Rio Frohriep of Emmett, $1,500.

  • Violet Wilson of Marine City, $1,500.

Charles A. Koppel Scholarship – Awarded to an incoming freshman from St. Clair, Sanilac or Huron counties.

  • Torrey McRobie of Fort Gratiot, $500.
  • Caleb Paldanius of Grant Township, $500.

Mari-Lu Rea McDannel Scholarship — Awarded to a female nursing student who attends at least half time (6 credit hours) and has a minimum 3.25 grade point average.

  • Jaclyn Lubanski of Sterling Heights, $500.
  • Christina Welch of Mussey Township, $500.

Dr. Carol Nowakowski Scholarship — Awarded to a graduate of New Life Christian Academy. If no applications are received from New Life Christian Academy, students attending SC4 will be considered.

  • Lauren Kimmerly of Smiths Creek, $1,000.
  • Chip VanCamp of Clyde Township, $1,000.
  • David Yanik of Port Huron, $1,000.

Nursing Program Scholarship – Awarded to a student enrolled at least half time (6 credit hours) in a nursing curriculum with a minimum 3.3 grade point average.

  • Dawn Black of Peck, $1,000.
  • Danielle Finn of Marysville, $1,000.
  • Mark Smith of Burtchville Township, $1,000.

Robert C. Peck III Scholarship Fund – Awarded to a full-time student and Michigan resident who has declared a pre-electrical engineering program and has a minimum 3.0 grade point average.

  • Eden Starbuck of St. Clair, $500.

Prichard Nursing Scholarship – Awarded to a graduate of Port Huron High School or Port Huron Northern High School entering the last year of the nursing associate degree program and enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours with a minimum 2.0 grade point average.

  • Tammy Fontenot-Frantz of Port Huron, $450.

Prichard Scholarship – Awarded to a graduate of Port Huron High School or Port Huron Northern High School enrolled full time with a minimum 2.75 grade point average.

  • Matthew Paul Allen of North Street, $225.
  • Tyler Bieth of Kimball Township, $225.

Gordon and Marlene Rady Endowment – Awarded to a sophomore enrolled full time in a business program who is a resident of St. Clair County and maintains a minimum 3.0 grade point average.

  • Joi Price of Port Huron, $250.

Carl J. Schwedler Memorial Endowment – Awarded to a student who resides in Huron County and is enrolled at least half time (6 credit hours).

  • Michelle Talaski of Ruth, $300.

Clarence Scott Memorial Scholarship – Awarded to a student majoring in journalism/media who is enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours.

Evelyn Sharrow Memorial Scholarship — Awarded to a freshman who is a graduate of Port Huron High School or Port Huron Northern High School enrolled full time with a minimum 3.0 high school grade point average.

  • Rachel King of Burtchville Township, $1,000.

Thomas A. Treleaven Communication Scholarship — Awarded to a freshman student enrolled full time in a communications program. Recipient must have a minimum 3.0 high school grade point average.
