SC4 offering computer skills for the office clerk program

St. Clair County Community College is offering a computer skills for the office clerk program to prepare students for certification.

The one-year program allows students to earn IC3-GS3 Digital Literacy certification, the internationally recognized standard for digital literacy. It focuses on computing fundamentals; basics of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; and Internet, networking and email basics.

The program consists of five courses. Each course includes eight hours per week of classroom instruction from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday and Wednesday.

Students are required to spend 12 additional hours per week in an open lab. The lab is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Recommended course sequence:

  • Sept. 5 to Oct. 26 – Computing Fundamentals for IC3
  • Oct. 29 to Dec. 21 – Living Online for IC3
  • Jan. 14 to May 3 – Key Applications for IC3
  • May 20 to June 28 – Personal Management
  • July 1 to Aug. 9 – Career and Workplace Skills

Students are encouraged to follow the recommended sequence, but can enter the program at any of the four class start dates.

Students must pass three exams to gain certification.

Class fee includes all textbooks, materials and certification test vouchers.

Students must complete pre-assessment testing at least one week prior to class start date.
