SC4 offers daylong professional development seminar for health care providers

St. Clair County Community College’s Center for Business & Industry Training will present Celebrating Nursing, a one day seminar for area nurses, on Thursday, May 12, from 8:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Citizens First M-TEC room 150 on the Port Huron campus.

Celebrating Nursing will feature a talk by Pamela Zarkowski, JD, Professor and Executive Associate Dean at the University Of Detroit Mercy School Of Dentistry. The lecture, titled “Do No Harm-Beware and Be Aware,” will cover legal and ethical topics, and the legal principles that guide health care providers in their interactions with colleagues, staff, patients and patient families. Zarkowski’s presentation will be from 9 a.m. – 12:00 noon.

In the afternoon Marilyn Vanderesch, Ph.D., RN, will speak on “Managing Conflict for All It’s Worth.” This presentation discusses skills needed to turn conflicts into opportunities and achieve positive results. Participants will gain knowledge of techniques for managing conflict that can enhance their communication with colleagues and families. Vanderesch’s presentation will be from 1:00-3:00 pm.

The deadline for registration is May 10. Participants can earn .5 nursing CEUs (equivalent to 5 contact hours).  The cost for Celebrating Nursing is $50 and includes continental breakfast and lunch.

To register call 810-989-5788 or e-mail cbit@sc4.edu.
