New college president to take lead June 3

At its regular meeting on April 11, the St. Clair County Community College (SC4) Board of Trustees approved a contract with Dr. Rose Bellanca, making official her appointment as the new President of the College. Dr. Bellanca agreed to the terms of the contract, which call for her to start on June 3. Interim president Dr. Ernest Dear will remain on board for a short time to help acquaint SC4's new president with her post.

The college conducted a national search to replace Dr. Christa Adams, who accepted a position with Owens Community College in August of last year. Former SC4 President Dr. Ernie Dear has been interim president while the College has been searching for a new leader.

"I am extremely pleased to see that the care and thought which went into the selection of the president resulted in the appointment of Dr. Bellanca. She brings to us a real understanding of Michigan community colleges, a familiarity with this area and an eagerness to become a part of the community," said Dr. Dear.

Dr. Bellanca, who visited the SC4 campus earlier this month at the invitation of student government, is excited about her assignment. "I am looking forward to joining the SC4 team," she commented.

Dr. Bellanca brings to the College a strong background in education. She holds a Doctorate in Administration and Organizational Studies from Wayne State University and has been the Provost at Macomb Community College in Warren, Michigan since 1998. She was Vice President for Planning and Development and Assistant to the President at Macomb Community College from 1996-1998. Prior to that she served at Chippewa Valley Schools as Executive Director of Strategic Planning, Professional Development and Community Relations, as Executive Director of Personnel and Labor Relations and as Director of Technology, Adult and Community Education.

St. Clair County Community College currently serves approximately 9,200 students in the Blue Water area with a wide range of credit and non-credit classes. The College offers 52 Associate degree and Certificate programs and 55 seamless transfer program options. A variety of Bachelor and Master degree programs are available locally through the SC4 University Center. The College provides career development, personal and professional development, business and industrial training and community enrichment for citizens of all ages. New resources include online and fast track courses. The full-service, main campus is located in downtown Port Huron, with Thumb Area Centers located in Algonac, Bad Axe, Imlay City, Peck and Yale. St. Clair County Community College is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association.
