Senator Stabenow to address SC4 graduates

 U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) will serve as the keynote speaker at St. Clair County Community College's (SC4) 78th annual commencement on May 10, 2002 at McMorran Arena in Port Huron. The Senator will address the graduates, their friends and families, as well as SC4 staff and the public. 

A native of Clare, Michigan, Senator Stabenow attended Michigan State University, where she received her Bachelor degree in 1972, and her Masters' degree in 1975. She worked with youth in the public schools before running for public office. Senator Stabenow is an accomplished legislator, having authored over 50 public acts as a state legislator and bringing critical issues, such as the cost of prescription drugs, to the forefront of Congress. Debbie Stabenow made history in 2000 when she became the first woman from the State of Michigan elected to the United States Senate.

Senator Stabenow has been nationally recognized with over 60 awards for her leadership on behalf of families and small businesses, including the United States Jaycees Outstanding Young American award. Most recently, the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare recognized her with its top award, and the National Association for Home Care named her a Home Health Hero.

"We are pleased to offer a speaker of this caliber for our students and their families," said Anita Gliniecki, Vice President for Academic Services. "Senator Stabenow has much to offer our graduates with her extensive experience and insights." 

During St. Clair County Community College's commencement, hundreds of graduates will be awarded Associate degrees, occupational Certificates, and Associate programs that transfer to four-year universities. The public is welcome to join attend the program at 7:30 p.m. on May 10. 

St. Clair County Community College currently serves approximately 9,200 students in the Blue Water area with a wide range of credit and non-credit classes. The College offers 52 Associate degree and Certificate programs and 55 seamless transfer program options. A variety of Bachelor and Master degree programs are available locally through the SC4 University Center. The College provides career development, personal and professional development, business and industrial training and community enrichment for citizens of all ages. New resources include online and fast track courses. The full-service, main campus is located in downtown Port Huron, with Thumb Area Centers located in Algonac, Bad Axe, Imlay City, Peck and Yale. St. Clair County Community College is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association.
