SC4 Alumni Golf Classic wins big for students

The St. Clair County Community College Alumni Association Annual Golf Classic on Monday, Aug. 29, raised more than $14,000. That’s more than double the amount the outing raised in 2004.

The money, which will be split evenly between the alumni association and the college athletic department, will be used for programs including scholarships.

The golf outing was sponsored by Citizens First at Black River Country Club in Port Huron Township. Alumni association board members Thomas Coleman and Rob Carson co-chaired the outing. Nineteen teams completed the 18-hole scramble.

The winning foursome with a score of 57 was Thomas Coleman, Mark Gourlay, George Murdick and Caremy Snellenberger on the Re/MAX Blue Water team. Each received an SC4 logo sweatshirt donated by the SC4 bookstore.

Denice Turner, playing on the Leo J. Hein Construction team, won the women’s longest drive contest. Randy Maiers of the Community Foundation of St. Clair County won the men’s longest drive contest. Paige Brickey of the Ron Brickey Associates team won the straightest drive contest. Each received a brass putter donated by Mueller Brass.

All golfers enjoyed a buffet lunch before the shotgun start and hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction after golfing. Auction items included four tickets to Michigan State University’s opening game donated by John and Grace Hill, a $750 Weber Grill donated by Gisele Pettee, a set of golf irons donated by Steve Varga, a plush area rug donated by Biernot’s Carpet One and more.
