Top candidates named in the SC4 Presidential Search Five top candidates, selected from a field of 47 applicants representing 21 different states, will vie for the job of President of St. Clair County Community College (SC4) in Port Huron. A search committee comprised of college staff, students and community members, presented the list of finalists to the SC4 Board of Trustees on November 29. Dan Lockwood, chair of the Presidential Search Committee, was impressed with the diversity and talents of the applicants. “The college has a good chance of selecting an extremely well-qualified president from the long list of candidates we received,” Mr. Lockwood said. He believes SC4’s excellent reputation helped the college attract the wide range of candidates. The Board of Trustees accepted the Committee’s recommendation to interview the top five candidates: Dr. Guy Altieri, Executive Vice President of Washtenaw Community College, Ann Arbor, Michigan; Dr. Robert E. Carlson, Executive Director, University of New Mexico, Gallup, New Mexico; Dr. Ronald J. Field, Vice President for Academic and Student Services, Lake Michigan College, Benton Harbor, Michigan; Dr. Bruce D. Getzan, Vice President, Gloucester County College, Sewell, New Jersey; and Dr. Vicky R. Smith, Senior Program Director, Institute of Community College Development, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. The next step will be for each candidate to spend a day on campus during December to get acquainted with the college community and be interviewed by the Board of Trustees. After interviews are completed, the Board will select the new president. Professor Jackie Jablonski, President of SC4’s Michigan Association of Higher Education group, expressed faculty’s reaction to the interview process. “We look forward to meeting the candidates and helping to select a college president whose first concern is the education of our students,” Professor Jablonski said. Gary Dettling, Dean of College Advancement, said the new president will have a unique opportunity to step into a revitalized college campus that continues to move forward. “SC4’s new leader will have the advantage to build on recent college successes that include a growing alumni association, new fundraising initiatives and the fall launch of the $6.5 million technical education center,” Dean Dettling reported. A leader among Michigan community colleges, SC4 has achieved seven consecutive terms of enrollment increases, and is currently ahead of last year’s winter enrollment by 14%. St. Clair County Community College currently serves approximately 9,200 students in the Blue Water area with a wide range of credit and non-credit classes. The College offers 52 Associate degree and Certificate programs and 55 seamless transfer program options. A variety of Bachelor and Master degree programs are available locally through the SC4 University Center. The College provides career development, personal and professional development, business and industrial training and community enrichment for citizens of all ages. New resources include online and fast track courses. The full-service, main campus is located in downtown Port Huron, with Thumb Area Centers located in Algonac, Bad Axe, Imlay City, Peck and Yale. St. Clair County Community College is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association. |
