New French cinema class offered at SC4 this winter

St. Clair County Community College (SC4) will offer a new class this winter entitled Survey of French Cinema.  The class will meet Thursdays at 6:00 p.m. on the downtown Port Huron campus beginning January 17.  Students will study both art and popular culture films, with approximately 14 viewing session over the course of the semester. 

“Some of the first feature films were made in France, one of the first major national cinemas in the world,” reported course creator, SC4 English/French Professor Jim Frank.  Professor Frank has a Master of Fine Arts in Translation and Creative Writing from the University of Arkansas. 

Students can elect credit in French or English for the French Cinema class.  It is listed in the college’s new winter class schedule as FR 257 and ENG 257.  No French language skills are necessary to participate in this course.  For more information contact Professor Frank at 810-989-5599.
