SC4 Volleyball team inducted into Sports Hall of Fame

 The 2000 St. Clair County Community College women’s Skipper volleyball team was honored Saturday night, October 13, at the 25th Annual Port Huron Sports Hall of Fame Induction Dinner.  “It is such an honor to be a part of the Hall of Fame with all the other great athletes”, commented Dale Voss, Head Coach at SC4. “We’re very proud of the team.” 

The strong Skipper team dominated opponents throughout the 2000 volleyball season with 73 wins and only 2 losses and captured the National Championship in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II.  The team also won the State Championship, another first for the College, and nine tournament titles. 

The team members include Krysten Brown, a graduate of Carman-Ainsworth High in Flint; Danielle Fritz from Millington High; Andrea Gass an Imlay City High graduate; Andrea Grubich from Midland High; Co-captain Nichole Landschoot from Marysville High; Co-captain Cheryle Lay from Port Huron High; Stacey Pierce, a Yale High graduate; Melissa Reynolds from Port Huron High; Co-captain Jennifer Smith a graduate of Bryan High; and Jette Wichmann from Hemlock High.  Every player made all conference honorable mention or higher.  Melissa Reynolds was also named the 2000 National Player of the Year.

This year’s Skipper volleyball team is currently number one in the nation with a record of 41 wins and 6 loses.  The team is scheduled to play at home against Delta College on Tuesday, October 16 at 7:00 p.m.; at Macomb Community College on Tuesday, October 23 at 7:00 and at Oakland Community College on Thursday, October 25 at 7:00 p.m.

St. Clair County Community College currently serves approximately 9,200 students in the Blue Water area with a wide range of credit and non-credit classes.  The College offers 51 Associate degree and Certificate programs and 55 seamless transfer program options.  A variety of Bachelor and Master degree programs are available locally through the SC4 University Center.  The College provides career development, personal and professional development, business and industrial training and community enrichment for citizens of all ages.  New resources include online and fast track courses.  The full-service, main campus is located in downtown Port Huron, with Thumb Area Centers located in Algonac, Bad Axe, Imlay City, Peck and Yale.  St. Clair County Community College is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association.
