World renowned comedy group comes to SC4 The SECOND CITY national touring company, the traveling arm of the oldest comedy ensemble in North America, will appear in Port Huron, on Saturday, October 27, 2001, 8pm at the St. Clair County Community College Fine Arts Theatre. SECOND CITY has helped to launch the careers of some of the greatest comic genius to grace film, TV and stage. The original company was founded in Chicago in 1959, and its success was almost instantaneous. Since then SECOND CITY has added a second home company in Toronto, two touring companies in the U.S. and another in Canada. SECOND CITY is a group of actors who enliven an empty stage with topical comedy sketches. Using few props and costumes, the ensemble lampoons our modern political, social and cultural lives. Their performances also include their famous improvisational sequences, building sketches on the spur of the moment around audience suggestions. All of the material, in fact, is developed during improvisational sets held nightly in Chicago and Toronto after the regular shows. Then, after refining the ideas during rehearsals, the finished pieces become part of future revues. Besides their extensive performances across the U.S. and Canada, SECOND CITY has performed in London and has been seen on television (SCTV) and has developed several film projects. A list of SECOND CITY graduates reads like a Who's Who of comedy: Alan Alda, Alan Arkin, Ed Asner, Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Peter Boyle, John Candy, Valerie Harper, Robert Klein, Shelly Long, Elaine May, Jerry Stiller, and Anne Meara, Bill Murray, Mike Nichols, Gilda Radner, Joan Rivers, Martin Short, David Steinberg, Betty Thomas...the list goes on and on. A single SECOND CITY performance will take place in Port Huron at the St. Clair County Community College Fine Arts Theatre on Saturday, October 27, 2001 at 8:00pm. Tickets are $12.00 all seats/general admission and are available in advance at the College Bookstore. The Fine Arts Theatre is located at 323 Erie Street, Port Huron.
