SC4 conference to introduce series on starting a business

St. Clair County Community College’s Workforce Training Institute will offer an Entrepreneur Conference on Friday, Oct. 21, to introduce a workshop series on what you need to know to start your own business.

State Sen. Jud Gilbert, R-Algonac, will be the keynote speaker at the conference, which will include presentations and question-and-answer sessions about the six, individual, two-hour workshops to be presented this fall.

The conference will be in Room 150 of the Michigan Technical Education Center on the college’s Port Huron campus. It will begin at 8:30 a.m. with continental breakfast and conclude with a lunch and entrepreneur success stories from noon to 1 p.m.

The conference and workshops also are sponsored by the Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center, Cargill Salt, Schefenacker Vision Systems USA Inc. and the U.S. Small Business Administration.

The workshops to be presented are:

· Nov. 1, 6 to 8 p.m. — Legal Issues in Starting a Business

· Nov. 8, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. — How to Find Customers

· Nov. 15, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. — Are You Making Money? - Accounting Tips

· Nov. 29, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. — Why You Need Business Insurance

· Dec. 6, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. — The IRS - Your Silent Partner

· Dec. 13, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. — Where to Get the Money to Start

Each workshop costs $61 and counts for 0.2 continuing education units. The workshops will be in Room 210 of the Michigan Technical Education Center. Register by calling (810) 989-5788 or e-mailing klindsay@sc4.edu at least one week before the start date of each workshop.
