SC4 student clubs join forces to adopt a stream

The Environmental Concerns Organization (ECO) of St. Clair County Community College (SC4) will participate in this weekend’s Adopt-a-stream project coordinated by the St. Clair County Cooperative Extension.  Two other SC4 student groups will join the effort:  the Data Information Systems and Computers (DISC) Club and the Lambda Mu chapter of Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society (PTK).

The SC4 student volunteers will meet at Home Depot in Fort Gratiot at 9:00 a.m. Saturday.  They have been assigned to work on part of the Howe-Brandymore drain behind Home Depot and running west.  Students will pick up trash and debris, identify wildlife and organisms in the area, perform water tests and document all findings.  Jim Hollenbeck of Keweenaw Environmental Consulting is sponsoring the college group and will coordinate the day’s activities.

The ECO group at SC4 focuses on promoting awareness and appreciation of our planet and its natural resources in a positive way.  ECO participated in the Adopt-a-stream project last year, and the group is looking forward to sharing this community service experience with fellow students from DISC and PTK.
