SC4 acts as link between Michigan, Canadian schools

St. Clair County Community College in Port Huron has signed an agreement with Lambton College of Applied Arts and Technology in Sarnia, Ontario, that will allow students to earn teaching certificates and bachelor’s degrees in education from Saginaw Valley State University in Saginaw.

The agreement will help Ontario students who don’t have easy access to an education degree in Canada near Sarnia.

SC4 will act as a bridge between Lambton and Saginaw Valley for three programs:

  • Bachelor’s degree in elementary education — Students will take two years of schooling at Lambton College. They then will take 15 credits through SC4 in Port Huron before taking two years of classes at Saginaw Valley through the SC4 University Center in Port Huron.
  • Bachelor’s degree in secondary education — The agreement is similar to the one for elementary education, but students must take one year of classes on campus in Saginaw before using the SC4 University Center in Port Huron for two years.
  • Teaching certificate — The agreement will allow students who already have a bachelor’s degree to use SC4 or another community college to complete any outstanding classes in their major to satisfy state requirements. They then can use the SC4 University Center to earn a teaching certificate through Saginaw Valley.

The SC4 University Center has eight university partners including Saginaw Valley.

For details on the new program, call the University Center at (810) 989-5808 or visit www.sc4.edu/universitycenter.
