2011 Commencement Awards

Several St. Clair County Community College students and faculty members received honors during the 87th annual Commencement ceremony. The awards recognize scholastic and teaching excellence during the 2010-11 academic year.

2011 Del James Blessinger Award for Teaching Excellence
The Blessinger award was established by the late Del James Blessinger in appreciation of an award he received while a student at SC4. For more than 20 years, the Blessinger Foundation has provided financial aid to SC4 students, financial support for the college’s Library and financial recognition of teaching excellence. SC4 students, faculty, staff and administrators can submit nominations. When selecting individuals for this award, the Blessinger Foundation trustees consider several criteria: excellence in the classroom, ability to inspire and motivate students in and outside of the classroom, and service to the college and the community.

2011 Distinguished Faculty Award
This award is based on a faculty member’s personal and professional impact with students, colleagues and in the community and is voted on by the entire faculty membership.

The winner of the Distinguished Faculty Award is David Korff.

2011 Faculty Memorial Award
The Faculty Memorial Award was founded several years ago by Professor Richard Colwell, past chairman of the SC4 English Department. The award recognizes outstanding students and provides a moment at the Commencement ceremony to remember those extraordinary educators who have served the students and who are with us now only in memory. The 2011 Completing Student Award is for a student who has completed his or her studies at St Clair County Community College.
