Blue Water Middle College opened in fall 2011 and served 86 students in its first year.

The partnership allows some St. Clair County high school students to graduate after five years with both a high school diploma and an associate degree from SC4, free of charge. Students apply in the spring of their sophomore year.

It is chartered by St. Clair County Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA). College tuition is paid for by the middle college, which is a charter school.
