Student Success Center

Fresh Start

It is the philosophy of SC4 that students at some time in their college career may need a Fresh Start. The procedure allows students who were enrolled in one program and are now enrolled in a different program the opportunity to have their cumulative grade point average reflect their present academic success. Before using Fresh Start, a curriculum change needs to have occurred.

Criteria for Fresh Start Eligibility

  1. Must be enrolled at SC4.
  2. Must have at least a two year "stop-out" prior to program change.
  3. Must have completed 12 credits in new program, as indicated in the College Catalog or transfer program requirement.
  4. Classes considered eligible for Fresh Start cannot be applicable to the student’s current program of study.
  5. Course(s) to be considered must have grades of C- or below.
  6. Students who earned a degree from SC4 are not eligible.

Process

  1. Make an appointment with a advisor to determine whether the Fresh Start procedure is applicable.
  2. If the procedure is deemed applicable, a Fresh Start form will be completed, signed by the student and the advisor, and forwarded to the Registrar.
  3. The Registrar will review the proposed request, either approve or disapprove according to the procedure, and mail a copy to the student’s home address.
  4. Course grades that have been changed may not be evaluated in a similar manner by other institutions.
