Liberal Arts Transfer Information

Many students who come to St. Clair County Community College plan to transfer to a university to earn their bachelor's degree before entering the job market. During the first two years, regardless of a student’s chosen field of study, all students complete general education courses which include English, mathematics, science, social science and humanities.

St. Clair County Community College works closely with colleges and universities to make certain that the credits completed at SCCCC transfer to a student’s chosen college. Because each four-year institution differs in its requirements, it is important that students planning to transfer identify their target four-year college as early as possible. We encourage prospective transfer students to meet with representatives from Michigan’s colleges and universities when they visit SCCCC each year. Visitation dates are published in the student newspaper and Student Bulletin.

The four-year colleges and universities in Michigan recruit and develop transfer guides for our students. Students should refer to the current transfer guides and work with a counselor to ensure a smooth transfer to the college or university of their choice. In addition, the Financial Aid Office has information on transfer scholarships offered by many universities to community college transfer students.

Most colleges and universities will accept 62 credit hours from SC4, which is equivalent to our associate transfer degrees. Grade point requirements vary depending on the institution and field of study.
