1. New database added to Daily Life Online: World Cultures Today

To our current database Daily Life Online, (formerly, Greenwood Daily Life), we've added a new module: World Cultures Today. Together these databases cover all cultures and all time periods, with added coverage of current cultural issues. Contains text, images, maps, timelines, lesson plans, and web links. Using the Advanced Search button is reccommended.

Especially useful for basic research related to Global Awareness Day topics and international children's issues.

Some sample topics:

· Culture and Customs of Afghanistan

· Teen Life In Africa > South Africa > SCHOOLING

· Teen Life In Africa > Kenya > RELIGIOUS PRACTICES AND CULTURAL CEREMONIES

Utilize their Teacher Resources from: dailylife.greenwood.com/teacher

2. Resources for UNIVERSITY CENTER Students

Students taking class through SC4’s University Center have access to both our library resources and their university library’s resources. Generally, they will want to use the university library’s resources first; they’ll have more materials that specifically support their course offerings.

For research help, students may contact an SC4 Librarian or a librarian at their university. Most libraries have phone, email, and live-chat reference help available. Here are library websites for just some of the universities with which SC4 partners:

3. Featured website: Net Anatomy

Authored by university professors and recommended for two-year technical program students and lower-level undergraduates, Net Anatomy has study guides and anatomy reviews accompanied by images of actual cadaver dissection: Radiographic, cross-sectional, and gross anatomy, and selected Visible Male and Visible Female Project images.

Check out this related site: The National Library of Medicine’s Visible Human Project takes you on an animated trip through cross-sections of a human body: www.nlm.nih.gov/research/visible/visible_gallery.html

4. Use our FACTS.com database to help students select a research topic

Use the LRC’s FACTS.com database for all types of information about key events and people from the 1940s to the present. It contains tens of sub-databases, including a chronological breakdown of news topics, and a button for Need a Research Paper Topic?

(Contact an LRC Reference Librarian if you would like to regularly receive FACTS.com email updates including their communiqué on Themed Research Topics.)
