Production, photo editor positions open at 'Erie Square Gazette'

The Erie Square Gazette has an opening for two editor positions for the 2009-10 school year.

Production editor

Duties and responsibilities:

  1. Processes copy on the production computer. This includes formatting copy and sizing copy in columns and inches. (Software: Adobe Creative Design Suite and/or Adobe Premium Suite)
  2. Supervises the paste-up of the newspaper on production days.
  3. Assists copy editor in the typing of stories on deadline days.
  4. Places ads.
  5. Meets print deadlines.
  6. Helps write headlines and cutlines.
  7. Assists the copy editor and editor-in-chief in the final proofing of the paper.

Basic requirements:

  1. Must attend all newspaper staff meetings unless excused by the editor or advisor.
  2. Must be present for the entire production of the paper (Tuesday and Wednesday evenings).
  3. Must spend a minimum of 12 working hours per week at the newspaper office or outside the office working for the newspaper.
  4. As of winter 2003, the production editor will assume the responsibilities of the graphics editor.

Scholarship:

The production editor receives a three-quarter scholarship. Any editor who does not comply with the duties and responsibilities of his/her position will be required to repay all or part of the scholarship funds. Students must enroll in the journalism practicum to be eligible for scholarship.

Photo editor

Duties and responsibilities:

  1. Takes digital photographs and downloads photographs to a computer from a digital camera.
  2. Assist other staff photographers.

Basic requirements:

  1. Must attend all newspaper staff meetings unless excused by the editor or advisor.
  2. Must be present for the entire production of the paper (Tuesday and Wednesday evenings).
  3. Must spend a minimum of 12 working hours per week at the newspaper office or outside the office working for the newspaper.

The photo editor receives a one-half scholarship. Any editor who does not comply with the duties and responsibilities of his/her position will be required to repay all or part of the scholarship funds. Students must enroll in the journalism practicum to be eligible for scholarship.
