Sophomore Scholarship information

The following is a listing of sophomore scholarships offered at SC4. Scholarships are labeled to show if they are awarded based on MERIT, NEED or both.

 American Legion Post 449 Scholarship
Awarded to an honorably discharged veteran, their spouse or dependent children. Copy of DD214 and a brief biography needed along with application. Must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credits and maintain a 2.5 grade point average.
Award: $1,000 per year
 
MERITVera Andrus Scholarship
Awarded to a second year pre-law student who will be transferring to the University of Michigan or Wayne State Law School. Must be full time and have a 3.0 GPA. Award: $1,000 per year
 
MERITRobert L. Ange Scholarship
Award will be given to a full time sophomore, who lives in-district, and is majoring in either Business Administration or the Medical Office Assistant Program. Two awards are given yearly, one to a Business Administration student and one to a Medical Secretary student. Award: $400 per year
 
MERITTheodora I. Beard Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a full time sophomore with a 3.0 GPA. Applicants must submit a recommendation from an advisor or instructor in their major field. Award: $700 per year
 
 Norman D. Beauchamp Scholarship – SC4 Foundation
Awarded to a full-time freshman or sophomore majoring in chemistry.
Award: $1,000 per year
 
MERIT • NEED Bezenah Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a sophomore majoring in Criminal Justice with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Recipient must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours and show financial need. Must provide a letter of recommendation from a criminal justice instructor. Award: $200 for fall semester
 
MERITGuido and Elizabeth Binda Scholarship
Awards are available for students who have shown interest or who have displayed an outstanding talent in the Arts, including painting, sculpture, architecture, music, drama, dance, and literature. Must be full time with a 2.5 GPA and a resident of the SC4 district. A letter of recommendation from a current faculty member must be attached to the application. This scholarship requires a special application. Award: Varies
 
NEEDDel James Blessinger Grant
Grant funds are available for students with unusual or special financial circumstances that impact their ability to receive adequate state or federal aid. Recipients must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours. Award: Varies
 
MERITDel James Blessinger Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a student who has completed 15 credit hours at SC4 with a 2.5 GPA. The student must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours. Award: Full tuition (in-district rate) up to a maximum of 16 contact hours Tuition not to exceed $2,200/fall and winter semester
 
MERITBlue Water Garden Club Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a full time student majoring in Horticulture or a related field. Award: $500
 
MERIT • NEEDBlue Water Chapter of Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel
The award is made based on scholastic performance, financial need, written references, personal statement, and an interview. Recipient must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours. This scholarship requires a special application.  Award: $500 for fall semester
 
MERITBlue Water Sportfishing Scholarship
Awarded to a sophomore with a 3.0 GPA, attending full time, pursuing a career as a Fisheries Biologist, Environmental Scientist or Conservation Officer. Recipient must have completed at least 6 credits in Biology or Criminal Justice and demonstrate participation in an Environmental Club with projects or extra curricular activities that show continued interest in major course of study. Letter of recommendation from an SC4 faculty member required. Award: $1,500 per year
 
MERITClara E. and Joseph M. Bourke Memorial Scholarship
This one time award is given to a sophomore student majoring in Advertising Design with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Full time enrollment is required. Award: $250
 
MERITMayme Bush and Inez Innes Memorial Scholarship
This award is given to students majoring in Elementary Education. Must be enrolled full time with a 3.0 GPA and reside in St. Clair County. Award: $500 per year
 
MERITHoward D. and Annabelle Crull Scholarship
Awarded to a student who is in a vocational-technical program at SC4 with a minimum 2.0 GPA. Recipient must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours. Award: $200 for fall semester
 
MERITDelta Kappa Gamma
Awarded to a female who is a sophomore with a 2.5 GPA. Must be enrolled in a transfer program leading to a career in teaching. Recipient must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours. This scholarship requires a special application. Application must include 2 letters of recommendation. Award: $1,000 per year
 
 Disabled American Veterans – Chapter 12 of St. Clair County
Scholarship is for a disabled American Veteran with an honorable discharge. A copy of DD214 and claim card must be attached to the application. The recipient must be a sophomore enrolled at least half time (6 credits) with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Award: $500 per year
 
 Jerry Ebner Memorial Scholarship – SC4 Foundation
Student must be a graduate of Croswell-Lexington High School, with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Award: Varies.
 
 Erie Square Gazette Scholarship
Tuition scholarships are awarded to students serving as editorial and/or management staff of the College newspaper. Send a letter of interest along with a resume of your qualifications to the Erie Square Gazette at SC4. An interview will be set up. Award: Varies
 
NEEDVirginia Fadell Memorial / Grace Goodwin Scholarship
An award is given to assist a woman pursuing higher education after a period of absence. Must be able to demonstrate financial need. Recipient must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours. This scholarship requires a special application. Award: Varies
 
 Foreign Language Scholarship
Students selected to use the Foreign Language Scholarship must be a current SC4 student at the time of application and will have completed a minimum of two years of study in the same foreign language (two years of a high school foreign language are equivalent to one year of college level language). The scholarship will provide an opportunity for travel, work or study in a country where the official language is the language the student is studying. This scholarship requires a special application. Applications are available by sending an email to financialaid@sc4.edu. Award: Varies
 
MERITFort Gratiot Lions Club Scholarship
Awarded to a resident of Fort Gratiot Township, enrolled at least half time with a 2.5 minimum GPA. The application must be typed and the donor will take the quality of the application into consideration. Award: Varies
 
 MERITDick Groch Student Athletic Scholarship - SC4 Foundation
Awarded to an SC4 student athlete. Minimum 2.5 GPA preferred.  Award: $250 per year
 
MERITJames H. Halamka Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a student majoring in biology with a minimum 2.75 GPA. Student must have either had two Biology courses or one previous course and be currently enrolled in another. Applicant must complete a general scholarship application, submit a letter of recommendation from a biology instructor, and write a 100-150-word essay stating career goals and objectives. Recipient must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours. Award: $300 for fall semester
 
NEEDRaymond and Mary Haley Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a student who demonstrates a financial need and could not continue education without assistance. Recipient must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours. Award: $250 per year
 

 NEED

Thomas A. Hamilton Scholarship
Applicant must demonstrate financial need and live within the SC4 district. Preference will be given to those who do not qualify for federal or state funding. The recipient must have a minimum 2.5 GPA. Preference will be given to those students who include a personal statement explaining their need for financial assistance. Award: $300 per year
 
NEEDJeff Harrington Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a freshman or sophomore who has completed the FAFSA form, resides in St. Clair County and shows financial need. Other consideration will be given to those who demonstrate involvement in extracurricular activities. Must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA. Award: $200
 
MERITLillian Hill
Must be a female sophomore with a 3.0 GPA or better with plans to attend a four-year institution. Recipient must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours. This scholarship requires a special application. Award: $400 per semester for two semesters
 
NEEDHispanic Council of St. Clair County Scholarship
Awarded to a student of Hispanic origin with financial need and a 2.0 GPA. An interview will be required. Recipient must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours. Award: One full time award for $300 and two part time awards for $150
 
 Paul Jackson Memorial Scholarship
In honor of the late Paul Jackson, former women’s basketball coach at SC4, an award will be given to an in-service area (i.e. St. Clair, Sanilac, Lapeer, Huron) student participating in a varsity sport at SC4. The athletic department coaches will meet to determine who will receive this award. The recipient will be required to be full time and maintain a 2.0 GPA. This scholarship requires a special application. Award: Varies, up to a maximum of tuition and fees
 
NEEDKahmann Memorial Scholarship
Available to full time students majoring in Science or Business with a minimum 2.0 GPA. Student also must show a financial need. Award: Varies
 
MERITHon. Edward T. Kane Memorial Scholarship – SC4 Foundation
Preference for students residing in Algonac or Clay Township. Must major in criminal justice, attend a minimum of 6 credit hours and have a 3.25 GPA. Award: $250 for fall and winter semester
 
 Ellen Kean Scholarship – SC4 Foundation
Student must be a sophomore who has completed their freshman year of college with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Award: Varies
 
NEEDJanet Kelly Memorial/Social Science Department Endowment
Developed in August 1994 as a payroll deduction from the Social Science Department. Intention is to help students in need (emergency situation). First priority will be social science students (i.e. criminal justice), but not entirely restricted to only social science. Award: Varies
 
NEEDLeague of Catholic Women Scholarship
wo scholarships will be awarded; one for a sophomore Associate Degree Nursing student and one for a sophomore in any curriculum. Eligible students must also be full time and maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher. Financial need is considered. Award: $1,000 per year toward tuition
 
 May-O'Brien, VFW Post 8465 Scholarship

Scholarship is for a freshman or sophomore student whom is a VFW member or meets eligibility for membership. Must provide proof of service in a foreign war or hostile action and received imminent danger pay. Required to attend a Post meeting prior to receiving scholarship, maintain membership in VFW. Please submit a brief biography. Must enroll in at least 6 credits and maintain a 2.5 GPA and complete the funded semester. Award: $500 for fall semester

 
NEED Alfred Maxwell Memorial Scholarship
An award will be given to a full time student residing in St. Clair County who is majoring in Art or Music. Must maintain a 3.0 GPA, demonstrate financial need, and provide a letter of recommendation from an art or music instructor. Award: Varies
 
NEEDMarilyn K. Moore Scholarship

Applicant must be female, in need of training for employment and must demonstrate financial need. Student must be a sophomore with a minimum 2.7 GPA. This scholarship is renewable as long as a 2.7 GPA is maintained. Student must attend full-time and is required to submit an essay explaining circumstance and career goals. Award: $1,000 per year – renewable

 
MERITBessie I. Mueller Endowment
An award is available to a sophomore majoring in Home Economics, Horticulture, Agriculture, English or a related field. The scholarship will continue for scholarship recipients transferring to Michigan State University who maintain full time status with a 3.0 GPA. Award: $1,000 per year at SC4 $2,500 per year at MSU
 
MERIT • NEEDE. B. Mueller Endowment
An award is available to a sophomore majoring in Business or Engineering. The scholarship will continue for those students transferring to the University of Michigan who maintain full time status with a 3.0 GPA. Eligible students must be a full-time resident in the SC4 district or Lambton County and demonstrate financial need. Award: $1,000 per year at SC4 $2,500 per year at U of M
 
NEEDNebraska Book Company Tuition Scholarship
Awarded to a freshman or sophomore who has completed the FAFSA form, resides in St. Clair County and shows financial need. Recipient must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA. Award: $500
 
NEEDDr. Carol Nowakowski Scholarship – SC4 Foundation
Student must be a graduate of New Life Christian Academy and must demonstrate financial need. If no applications are received from New Life Christian Academy, students attending SC4 will be considered. Award: Varies
 
MERIT
Robert C. Peck III Scholarship Fund
Scholarship will be awarded to a Michigan resident who is a full-time student and who was declared a pre-electrical engineering program. Student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Award: Varies
 
 Police Officer’s & Fire Fighter’s Survivor Scholarship
Tuition is waived for either the surviving spouse and/or children of Michigan police officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty. A child must be younger than 21 when the death of the police officer or firefighter occurred and must apply before the age of 21. This scholarship requires a special application. Applications are available by sending an email to financialaid@sc4.edu. Award: Tuition
 
MERITPort Huron Garden Club Scholarship
An award will be given to a second year student with a minimum 2.0 GPA majoring in Horticulture or a related field. Recipient must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours. Applicant must include an essay explaining something about themselves, what they plan on doing with this degree (how it will help them in the future) and what their education goals are. Student may be asked to present to the Garden Club. Award: Varies
 
 Port Huron Lions Club Scholarship
A tuition award will be given to a student who is visually impaired or hearing impaired. Recipient must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours. This scholarship requires a special application. If you are interested in applying, click here to print the application. Award: Varies
 
MERIT Port Huron Police Association Memorial Scholarship
Port Huron Police Association Memorial Scholarship An award will be given to a full time sophomore in the Criminal Justice program with a 3.0 GPA or higher. Eligible students also must demonstrate financial need and complete a “Request for Criminal Record Check” sheet, which can be printed here. Students are required to write a 100-150 word essay stating career goals and other objectives. Award: $500 per year
 
MERIT • NEEDPort Huron Sports Hall of Fame Scholarship
For Graduates of Port Huron High or Port Huron Northern High School only. Recipient must have successfully competed in a varsity athletic program in high school and be participating in a varsity sport at SC4. Must be full time with a minimum 2.25 GPA. Preference will be given to a student with financial need. Renewable for a second year. Award: $500 per semester
 
MERITPort Huron VFW 796 Post Scholarship
Awarded to an active or discharged veteran of foreign wars, their spouse or dependent children. Copy of DD214 is needed along with application. Active personnel must provide proof of combat zone. Must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credits and maintain a 2.5 GPA. Recipient MUST attend a meeting at the VFW 796 post before receiving the award. Award: $500
 
MERITPrestolite Endowment
Awarded to a student majoring in Business. Priority will be given to a son or daughter of a Prestolite employee or past employee (must provide documentation of Prestolite relationship if appropriate). Must have at least 6 credits and maintain a 3.0 GPA. Must be a resident of the SC4 district for at least one year. If no Prestolite employee or dependent is identified, a high school senior will be selected who plans to enroll at SC4 as a full time student. Criteria is noted as follows: academic performance, extra curricular activities including work, and unusual circumstances. Award: Varies
 
MERIT • NEEDGordon and Marlene Rady Endowment
Awarded to a sophomore (single parent preferred) who is majoring in Business and is a resident in St. Clair County. Recipient must be full time, maintain a 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need. Award: $1,200 per year
 
 St. Clair County AFL-CIO Scholarship
Applicant must be a union member or a son/daughter or legally adopted child or an active, retired or deceased member. Documentation required. The recipient upon the completion of the term that the scholarship was awarded will give a brief report to the sponsor at its monthly meeting. Award: $250
 
 MERIT • NEED  SC4 ESP Student Scholarship
Awarded to a sophomore with a 3.0 GPA. Must be registered for a minimum of 6 credit hours and show financial need. Award: $300 for fall semester
 
MERITSt. Clair County Community College Retiree Scholarship
Awarded to a full-time sophomore with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Applicant must be a resident of St. Clair or Sanilac counties and submit a typed biography including an explanation as to why they should receive the scholarship. Applicant also must submit two letters of recommendation for the scholarship. Award: $500
 
NEEDCarl J. Schwedler Memorial Endowment
Awarded to a student who resides in Huron County. Student must also show financial need. Recipient must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours. Award: Varies
 
 Clarence Scott Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a student majoring in Journalism/Media. Recipient must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours. Award: Varies
 
 Student Government Scholarship
Tuition scholarships are awarded to elected officers of the Student Government. Petitions must be obtained in the Student Government Office (Room 110 of the Main Building) and submitted before Spring Break (early March). Award: Varies
 
MERITWGRT Broadcasting Scholarship
Recipient must be pursuing a degree in Broadcasting, be enrolled at least half time (6 credits), and maintain a 2.0 GPA. Award: $500 per year ($250 fall and  $250 winter)
