Frequently Asked Questions:

Answer (A): Use the following equation to calculate your admission criteria

((#Credits________ / 30) x 100) x 0.25=___________

(HESI average_________) x 0.5=____________

Total Pre-admission Score_____________

Q: What should my Pre-admission Score be?

A: The closer your score is to a 100, the better your chances to be one of the top students.
After the admission process has been completed, you will be informed of the qualifying score for the fall class. The qualifying score for FA 2009 was 83.

Q: What if my score is the same as another student?

A: Your Cumulative Score on the HESI will be used if needed for a tie breaker.

Q: How long will it take for me to know if I have been accepted into the program?

A: You will be notified of your acceptance/placement by the end of March for fall admission.

Q: How can I see the admission courses that were used for my score?

A: Students can now access their Nursing Admission Course via the WAVE
  • Login to WAVE
  • Click on WAVE for College Credit Students
  • Click on “View Classes Needed for My Degree”
  • Go to the “What if I changed my program of study” option
  • Select “NURRN – Nursing Admissions Courses – RN” and click SUBMIT
  • Select the 2009/2010 catalog year and click SUBMIT
  • A report will appear on the screen showing the student how the courses they have taken will assist them with admission to the RN program.

Q: How do I calculate my grade point average (GPA)?

A: Each letter grade has a corresponding grade point. The GPA is calculated as follows: total grade points earned divided by the number of credit hours attempted = GPA.

Example: Class Grade Grade Points Credit hours Total Grade Points
  HE 101 A   4.0 1 4.0
  BIO 171 B+ 3.3 3 9.9
  PS 101 A-  3.7 +3 +11.1
        7 25.0
      Total: 25.0 divided by 7 = 3.57 GPA
See page 149 of Catalog for additional information.

Q: What if my credits are transferred from another college?

A :All transfer credits required for the nursing program are evaluated by the Registrar. Transfer credit is granted based upon the number of credits earned at the transfer institution. For example, if your Introduction to Psychology transfer class was 3 credits, you will only receive 3 credits for the SC4 PSY 180 class, not the actual 4 credits earned at SC4. Likewise, if you completed a 4 credit hour transfer Introduction to Political Science class, you will only receive the 3 credits earned in the SC4 PS 101 class and one general political science credit. However, only the 3 credits will apply toward the RN Admission process.
