National Community College Month

April is National Community College Month, and community colleges across the nation are planning events to celebrate. St. Clair County Community College will offer numerous activities.

   
Film screening — The International Cultural Education Committee will show the film Smoke Signals at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 1, in Room 201 of the Clara E. Mackenzie Building.

Free noon concerts — SC4 will present Reflections of India at noon Thursday, April 1. The annual "Tapestry" student music, theatre and dance presentation will take place at noon Thursday, April 15. Boogie Woogie Babies will perform at noon Thursday, April 22. All three shows are free in the Fine Arts Theatre.

Celebration of Native American History and Culture — SC4 will celebrate Native American culture Tuesday, April 6, with morning, afternoon and evening events in the Fine Arts Theatre.

SC4 Wellness Expo — The SC4 Wellness Committee is sponsoring a Wellness Expo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 8, in the College Center Atrium and Café. It will feature wellness displays and information from numerous exhibitors.

Free College Day — SC4 will offer its annual Free College Day on Saturday, April 10. The event will feature nearly 150 free sessions on the college’s Port Huron campus. Deadline is Tuesday, April 6, for advance registration online at www.sc4.edu/freecollege. Walk-in registration will be available April 10.

Student Recognition Ceremony — Students will be honored for academic, leadership and service excellence at a ceremony from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, in the Fine Arts Theatre.

Grad Fest — As part of a celebration leading up to Commencement in May, SC4 students will receive their caps and gowns and graduation information Thursday, April 15.

Staff Recognition Dinner — SC4 employees will be honored for service and special recognition Friday, April 16.

Film screening — SC4 student club Zombie Defense Council will show the 1968 film Night of the Living Dead as a fundraiser at 7 p.m. Friday, April 16, in Room 201 of the Clara E. Mackenzie Building. Admission is $5, which includes popcorn.

Passport Fair — The Global Awareness Club will host a Passport Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, April 16, in the Memorial Room of the Clara E. Mackenzie Building. Participants can complete the process of applying for a United States passport or passport card. Advance registration is required by calling (810) 989-5695. Registration deadline is Friday, April 9.

SC4 Symphonic Band concert  — The SC4 Symphonic Band will perform its “Moments in Time” concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at McMorran Place Auditorium in Port Huron. For ticket information, call (810) 985-6166.

Celebrating Diversity in Music — The SC4 Diversity Advisory Council will celebrate diversity in music beginning at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 18, in the Fine Arts Theatre. The concert will feature musicians from varied genres.

Sexual assault awareness mock trial — The SC4 Social Science Department and various community partners will present a mock trial to promote awareness of sexual assault. The event will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, in the Fine Arts Theatre.

SC4 Career Fair — The college will offer its annual Career Fair from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, in the College Center Café. College students and alumni can gain exclusive admission from noon to 2 p.m. The event will open to the public from 2 to 3 p.m. The Career Fair offers job seekers a chance to meet employers and learn about job opportunities.

Holocaust remembrance program — Holocaust survivors will share their stories during this program from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, April 22, in Room 201 of the Clara E. Mackenzie building. The program is sponsored by the Global Awareness Club.

Patterns Art ShowThe art show will exhibit work from artists who contributed to the 52nd edition of Patterns, a literary and arts publication featuring work from SC4 students. The show runs April 9 through 25.

Patterns Reception — A reception to celebrate the release of the 52nd edition of Patterns will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 25, in the Fine Arts Theatre and College Center Atrium. Copies of Patterns will be available.

The Spiral Studio — The April guest artist at The Spiral Studio is SC4 alumna Cindy Badley, who will work on fused glass and pottery projects. The studio is at Studio 1219 in downtown Port Huron.

Athletics — The college has numerous athletic events in April, as SC4’s baseball team plays at Sanborn Park and the softball team plays at Pine Grove Park.
